Designed for One-Level Living

Modern Organic Whole Home Remodel

Project summary:

This one started with a big question: how do you make a home larger, without turning daily life into a construction-zone nightmare? The answer was a carefully phased 1,800+ square feet addition that kept everything on one level and reshaped the layout around how they actually live and host.

We added big south-facing windows, improved cross-ventilation, and lighting that made it all come together. The two-kitchen setup is the real game-changer: a show kitchen for gathering, plus a working kitchen that keeps the “real-life” appliances neatly tucked away. Beyond the kitchen, the living room was redesigned for a bright, open feel, enhanced by the relocated lighting and an updated fireplace. The sunroom, connected to the office, offers a serene, light-filled escape. The laundry and mudroom were reimagined for everyday functionality, and the primary suite became a true retreat, while the guest bathroom was updated for comfort and style.

Every room was carefully curated to blend form with function, making this a home that’s ready to host, live, and relax in.

How the vision came to be

kitchen remodel design rendering with large island and drink station

The Before Stage

The client really loved their home, but the floor plan wasn’t working for their lifestyle. Entertaining was challenging with the limited space, and the original layout made everything feel disconnected. The home needed more room, especially to accommodate the areas they used most—on a single level. The biggest challenge was finding a balance between scale and keeping things manageable. Since the family planned to live in the home during the remodel, we needed a phased approach that kept their routine as normal as possible while transforming the space.

Design & Planning Stage

This is where the vision took shape. We designed a 1,800+ square foot one-level addition, expanding the home’s footprint without introducing stairs. The layout was focused on creating a seamless flow for both everyday living and hosting. We worked in key features such as large south-facing windows, improved cross-ventilation, and a two-kitchen setup. The main show kitchen was designed for gathering with a large island and seating, while the working kitchen efficiently handled prep work, small appliances, and all of the functional needs of daily life.

Finished Project

The new layout now supports both hosting and everyday comfort effortlessly. The show kitchen is open, bright, and designed with a large island that invites gathering, while the working kitchen keeps cooking and prep areas neatly tucked away. The flow between the kitchen, living, and dining spaces feels natural and open. The sunroom and office, connected with expansive windows, bring in natural light while offering cozy retreats. The mudroom, laundry room, and primary suite all provide added functionality without compromising the home’s organic modern aesthetic. The home now feels cohesive and complete, with a new roof tying everything together seamlessly—this truly feels like it was always meant to be.

The path from plan to reality

kitchen remodel design rendering with large island and drink station

The Before Stage

The home had plenty of space, but it didn’t feel fully connected. The layout created visual breaks between the kitchen and living areas, and several rooms felt underused or dated. There were also lots of small details that kept the home from feeling cohesive: older lighting, mismatched hardware, and finishes that didn’t reflect how the family wanted to live. Instead of making random upgrades, we treated the remodel as a full system. Flow, function, and finish selections all had to work together.

Design & Planning Stage

This phase was all about intentional choices. We mapped out a better layout first, then built the material story around it: warm white oak cabinetry, light-stained wood flooring, and gold-toned metals that add softness without feeling flashy. We planned the kitchen as the heart of the home with an island that greets you at the entry, deep storage, and improved appliance placement. We also designed personality moments throughout the home, like the glass-walled office, the moody wet bar, and the bold powder bath, so every space felt considered, not cookie-cutter.

Finished Project

The end result feels calm, elevated, and easy to move through. Natural light travels further, sightlines are cleaner, and the main level finally functions as one connected living space. The kitchen is now a true centerpiece with ceiling-height cabinetry, an induction range, a drawer microwave, a farmhouse sink, and a coffee bar that makes mornings smoother. Upstairs, the refreshed bathrooms and bedrooms feel cleaner and brighter, and the primary suite reads like a retreat with matching floors, refined lighting, and a spa-inspired bathroom designed for everyday comfort.
whole home remodel with airy kitchen and large island
This was a true full-home refresh with one clear goal: make the house feel lighter, more open, and more connected. We opened the kitchen to work as one large room, brought in timeless traditional details, and balanced warm wood tones with an airy, clean finish throughout the main living spaces.

A Fresh Start for the Whole Home

Bright + Light Whole Home Remodel

Project summary:

This remodel touched nearly every main space in the home, with the kitchen as the heart of the transformation. The original layout kept rooms feeling separate and heavier than the homeowners wanted, so we reworked the flow, combining the kitchen, dining, and living areas into one open, welcoming space while layering in the timeless yet modern details.

In the kitchen, we chose inset shaker cabinetry, extending it to the ceiling with glass upper cabinets to keep the space feeling light. Warm wood tones in the lower cabinetry complement Sherwin-Williams Acacia Haze, a soft yet airy color with depth. We finished with Rainier Gold countertops, gold hardware, and brand-new appliances while keeping the double oven and adding plenty of outlets for everyday use.

Beyond the kitchen, the updates included a refreshed laundry room, new tile and vanity in the powder bath, and a whole-home brightening effect across several key spaces.

Kitchen summary

  • All three spaces used for one big room
  • Timeless, traditional design
  • Wood tones, keeping it light and airy
  • Cabinets to ceiling
  • Glass cabinets up top for dishes
  • Drink station area (with sink and beverage fridge) over where desk currently is
  • All new appliances
  • Microwave on counter
  • Keeping a double oven
  • Gold hardware
  • Lots of outlets

Laundry summary

  • New cabinets

What the process looks like

kitchen before remodel with darker cabinets and dated lighting

The Before Stage

The home had great bones, but three key spaces felt disconnected. The kitchen needed a full gut and a better flow between all three areas. The laundry room lacked built-in storage and felt unfinished, even though the current rack was worth keeping. The powder bath felt dated, with heavy texture, wainscoting, and older finishes that made the room feel darker than it needed to.
kitchen design rendering with large island and drink station layout

Design & Planning Stage

We mapped the kitchen as one large room with a timeless, traditional look that still felt light and airy. Plans included inset shaker cabinets to the ceiling, glass uppers, gold hardware, and plenty of outlets, plus a drink station with a sink and beverage fridge. In the laundry, we planned new cabinetry and paint while keeping the existing storage rack. In the powder, we specified a new vanity, soffit removal, and fresh tile with cleaner wall surfaces.

Finished Project

The finished home feels bright, calm, and pulled together. The kitchen reads bright and classic, with ceiling-height cabinetry, updated appliances, while keeping the double oven, and a dedicated beverage area for daily convenience. The laundry room feels more organized and polished with new cabinets and paint, while still using the current rack. The powder bath feels refreshed and lighter, with updated tile, a new vanity, and smoother walls after removing the older treatments.

Office remodel process:

living room with stained beams and mantle

The Before Stage

Their old office felt dark and stifling, with barely enough room for one person to work comfortably. The space was underutilized and cramped at the same time. The layout of the room made it tough to stay organized and the space just didn’t have the cozy atmosphere they wanted.
custom laundry room with dog care setup

Design & Planning Stage

We helped them create a unified look for both rooms. In the office, we added custom cabinetry with file drawers, a hidden printer drawer, and a router cabinet. Shaker-style doors got gold hardware, and the walls were painted the perfect blue-green-grey.

The Finished Project

The office now suits them both, with generous desk space, organized storage, and a brighter, more inviting feel. Ideal office space for creativity necessary to write and the focus necessary for work – ideally fitting their needs!
