A Transformative Laundry Room Remodel

Transforming a multi-purpose laundry room into a functional space for both the homeowner and her foster dogs was one of those special projects that truly resonated with our team. The client, a dedicated foster parent to dogs, needed a space that could effortlessly serve as both a laundry room and mudroom, while also accommodating the unique needs of 4-10 foster dogs. This called for a well-organized and supportive environment that everyone could comfortably call their own.

The process that shaped this space

remodeled laundry room with durable flooring

The Before Stage

Initially, the space was just a basic mudroom and laundry area with limited functionality and hardly any storage. It was cluttered and didn’t meet the client’s needs. Our job was to transform this room into a place that not only handled the daily laundry demands but also supported the specific needs of her dogs, including feeding, medication, and bathing. Such changes would make it possible for our client to provide loving and effective care for her foster dogs.

Design & Planning Stage

When planning the space, we focused on using durable and easy-to-clean materials that would be perfect for both. We designed integrated feeding and medication stations, plenty of storage, and robust laundry facilities. The layout was thoughtfully arranged to improve the flow of daily tasks, from feeding the dogs to handling laundry, making sure everything was easily accessible. We also included small whiteboards as a special touch—these serve as memorials for dogs that have passed, a heartfelt tribute that our client wanted to keep.

Finished Project

The new layout includes a feeding station with adjustable heights for the bowls, a deep sink for bathing dogs, and a compact refrigerator tailored to the client’s specifications. The laundry facilities were upgraded with modern appliances, and additional storage was created for pet and laundry supplies. Seeing the tangible results of this thoughtful design made our team immensely proud, as it not only met the client’s needs and helped her be an even better pet foster parent.

This whole-home update tackled two completely different spaces with one thoughtful plan. We refreshed the exterior and completely reworked the laundry room for a home that looks better from the street and works better behind the scenes.

Whole-Home Remodel

Exterior and Laundry Room

Project summary:

Our client had a long list of needs for this front and back exterior refresh. Their biggest wish list item was an updated exterior stone color, but they also needed to fix cracks in the mortar, replace rotted woodwork, update windows and gutters, and weatherproof the fence.

In the laundry room, our client needed an upgraded room with more space that could handle the everyday needs of a busy family with two young children. They wanted a front-load washer and dryer with a counter on top, more shelving and cabinets, and a utility sink.

All of these necessities were captured in a completely remodeled laundry room finished with cabinets in Sherwin-Williams Salty Dog and white quartz countertops. A blend of cabinets and open shelving makes this laundry sanctuary sleek, modern, and still highly functional.

Exterior:

  • Repair cracked mortar and replace rotting trim
  • Update exteriors to whitewash stone
  • Repair windows
  • Add new gutters
  • New exterior light fixtures
  • Rebuilt covered patio structure
  • Landscaping to hide water hose
  • Weatherproofing the fence

  • Custom cabinetry and painted open shelves
  • Relocated the sink and added a large, utility one

The Before Stage

The exterior project started with an assessment of the current state of the property. Working with the homeowners, our design team created a plan to make the area more enjoyable and improve the curb appeal. We did something similar in the laundry room, where our team listened to the homeowners’ concerns, wishes, and preferences, to create something new that they’ll love using.

Design & Planning Stage

Our team then created detailed designs with 3D renderings so homeowners could see how the finished spaces would look before construction. Then, we got to work. On the exterior, this included repairing damage, replacing worn elements, and adding new features. In the laundry room, the focus was on expanding the space, improving organization, and creating a brighter, more welcoming environment.

Finished Project

With the work done, a reveal brought both projects together seamlessly. The exterior now features refreshed mortar, updated trim, new paint, improved windows and gutters, rebuilt patio elements, exterior lighting, and landscaping. In contrast, the laundry room is now larger, brighter, and far more functional, with custom cabinetry, practical features, and a clean, light design that the homeowners love.
Media Room Retreat
What started as unused space above the garage became an opportunity to create a nice leisure space for this family. Our goals were comfort, privacy, and flexibility, and we achieved them without affecting the flow or function of the rest of the home.

Media Room Remodel

Media Room Retreat

Project summary:

With two kids on the cusp of their teenage years, this expanding family needed to update their home to better suit their evolving needs. They had a spacious bonus room upstairs and an attic located above the garage. To some, it may seem like a wasted space. To Ten Key Remodels, it was a wellspring of untapped potential. We envisioned transforming this attic into a private, cozy media room perfect for family movie nights and relaxation. After chatting with the clients and exploring their ideas, we crafted a design and plan that brought this exciting new space to life.

To make the new space even more functional and self-sufficient, we added a small bathroom to the design. Featuring a full shower and toilet, this addition ensures that the area is not only modern and stylish but also perfectly equipped for the kids to enjoy hours of leisure. Now, the space is a well-rounded retreat that seamlessly combines comfort and convenience.

Our process, step-by-step

The Before Stage

This attic was the perfect blank canvas for our design wings to be spread. With no previous purpose, this space could easily be transformed into just about anything. That being said, the space also required a lot of forethought, including electrical and plumbing installations.

Design & Planning Stage

The client’s idea to transform this space into a media room for teenagers was a guiding star for this project. The central feature is the media center with plenty of cozy seating and controllable lighting. The bathroom, too, is organized around convenience and elegance.

Finished Project

This finalized attic project now functions as an extension of the home while also offering privacy. Whether they opt for board games or a movie night, these teenagers can count on a comfortable and enjoyable stay in their new space – just as intended!
