Warm Hearth Kitchen Remodel

Project Summary:

We had the opportunity to completely reimagine this kitchen for a family who needed their space to work harder—and feel warmer. The top priority? Maximize countertop space for daily prep without compromising flow or charm.

We began with a full gut renovation, reworking the layout to close off an unused doorway to the formal living room, making room for a longer stretch of custom counter space and cabinetry. We installed a new gas line to accommodate a high-performance gas range, perfect for home chefs who want both precision and power.

The flooring was an important design anchor—our clients loved the tone of their formal living room, so we seamlessly extended it into the kitchen for a cohesive, elevated look. Overhead, we removed the soffit to open up the visual space, while preserving their existing light fixtures to retain a sense of familiarity. A new drop-down light above the sink adds just the right touch of focused ambiance.

Storage solutions were crafted with intention—especially for coffee lovers. We integrated smart cabinetry to keep everyday mugs within reach but off the counters. In the adjacent laundry room, we added custom cabinets for functional, stylish storage.

Bonus fix: the old floor HVAC vent wasn’t doing its job, so we removed it and covered the space with matching flooring for a clean, uninterrupted look.

This remodel reflects what we do best—personalized design rooted in real-life functionality, elevated by timeless materials and thoughtful details.

The Before Stage

Before our team stepped in, the room felt closed off and underutilized. An awkward doorway to the formal living room broke up the layout, storage was limited, and the counters left much to be desired for a family that spends real time together. The flooring didn’t match the rest of the home, and the old HVAC vent disrupted the look and didn’t deliver on function. It was clear this space had good bones, but it needed a complete reimagining.

Design & Planning Stage

We took a holistic approach to planning, focused not just on beauty, but livability. Our first major move was to close off the unused living room doorway, allowing for a longer run of custom cabinetry and expanded counter space. To support the client’s love of cooking, we rerouted a new gas line for a high-performance gas range. Design-wise, we prioritized cohesion: the warm-toned wood flooring from the living room was extended into the kitchen, while the soffit was removed to create a more open, airy feel. We chose to retain the original light fixtures to preserve a sense of familiarity, layering in a new drop-down light above the sink for added ambiance.

Finished Project

The finished kitchen is both a visual and functional triumph. Custom cabinetry now offers generous storage, with thoughtful features like a coffee nook that keeps mugs accessible but off the counter. Now there’s a proper spot for the range, and the generous counter space turns prepping meals into something a lot more manageable. In the adjacent laundry room, we added stylish, functional storage to carry the design language beyond the kitchen. And the troublesome HVAC vent? Gone. Replaced with matching flooring for a seamless, uninterrupted finish.
This remodel is a true reflection of our ethos: real-world function, timeless materials, and warm, intentional design that feels like home.
